Cheney doesn't get hit by hail as often as Wichita, but wind across open country wears roofs down. We give honest inspections and straight answers.
Cheney was founded in 1883 on the Santa Fe line between Wichita and Pratt and named for railroad stockholder Benjamin P. Cheney. Today it's a town of 2,181 on the far west side of Sedgwick County, best known for Cheney Reservoir and Cheney State Park. Homes here range from older houses near downtown to newer places built by people who want small-town life within reach of Wichita.
Cheney sees far fewer hail reports than the metro. Storm data shows one report within 10 miles in 2026 (quarter-size, May 30) and two in 2025, compared with more than 20 a year near Wichita. Wind is the bigger story out here. Gusts across open country lift shingle edges, break the seal strips, and eventually tear tabs loose. That kind of damage is easy to miss from the ground.
Because Cheney roofs aren't hammered by hail every year, a lot of them can be repaired instead of replaced. If a few shingles are missing or the flashing around a chimney is leaking, we'll fix that and tell you how many years the rest of the roof has left. If it's time for a full replacement, we'll show you why with photos.
Many Cheney properties have detached garages or shops with their own shingle roofs. If a storm damaged the house, check those too. Detached structures are often covered under a separate part of your homeowners policy, and we'll include them in the inspection at no charge.
